Eleven to watch in 2011: Jerrin Toomey

In our continued attempts to stave off the summer lull -- and to keep this blog something resembling fresh -- we bring you a new series: The 11 YAIAA football players you need to watch in 2011. Each day for the next week and a half, we'll feature another of the league's most promising talents. Think we missed somebody? Chime in using the comments section. Jerrin Toomey, WR/S, West York There may not be a better defensive back around than Toomey, who broke into West York's lineup as a sophomore and is now heading into this third season as a starter. Toomey is not big -- at 5-foot-9 and 171 pounds, he's far from it. But he's your typical West York football player, a kid who squeezes every bit of talent out of his body. From the safety position, Toomey led the Bulldogs last year in both tackles (94) and interceptions (5). He picked off two passes during an Oct. 8 win against Susquehannock. Toomey also posted some solid numbers as a wide receiver -- 408 yards and four scores. Toomey actually started the first game of the season at running back, before shifting back out wide. With last year's Division II player of the year Brett Campbell (1,061 receiving yards, 13 TDs) having graduated, Toomey appears in line to become the No. 1 pass catching option for the Bulldogs. 2010 statsReceiving 29 receptions, 408 yards, 14.07 avg., 4 TDs Rushing 21 carries, 83 yards, 3.95 avg.
