Hibbs out, Wilkinson in at York County Tech

Tim Hibbs' time at York County Tech has ended before he ever coached a down. According to a release sent out by the school this afternoon, the former Biglerville and William Penn coach has resigned to take a coaching and teaching job in Florida. Hibbs will be replaced by another familiar face: Former Kennard-Dale coach Doug Wilkinson, who had signed on this spring to be the Spartans offensive coordinator. For Hibbs, this marks the second year in a row he's been involved in a late summer coaching switch. Hibbs resigned as William Penn's head coach last summer, after the district furloughed his teaching position at the high school. This time, Hibbs left to pursue a job at Penn Crest Academy in Florida. He had been hired by York County Tech in February to replace Todd Knisely, whose tenure with the Spartans lasted two seasons. The void creates an opportunity for Wilkinson, the winningest coach in Kennard-Dale history, who stepped down in March 2010 after eight season as Rams head coach. He compiled a 28-54 at the school, and breathed life into a once-dormant program. "I wanted to get back into coaching. I really missed it last year," Wilkinson said by phone this afternoon. "At this point in my life, I was actually really excited working for Coach Hibbs and learning from him. But I'm excited about being a head coach again. I don't want to give the impression it's not something I wanted. I did." More coming...
