Eleven to watch in 2011: David Telp

In our continued attempts to stave off the summer lull -- and to keep this blog something resembling fresh -- we bring you a new series: The 11 YAIAA football players you need to watch in 2011. Each day for the next week and a half, we'll feature another of the league's most promising talents. Think we missed somebody? Chime in using the comments section.David Telp, DE/FB, Red Lion About time we got a defensive player on this list. Telp may be the league's most intriguing player, in part because it's hard to know much about him. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound rising senior has only played one year of organized football. Then again, that year was pretty impressive. Telp racked up 61 tackles last season -- 13 for loss -- to go along with seven sacks. His signature skills are his quickness and speed, which make him a tough matchup for slower-footed offensive tackles. Relative inexperience aside, that athleticism makes Telp an enticing draw for college coaches; Lions coach Pat Conrad said recently Telp has received two Division I scholarship offers (Tempe and Cincinnati) and several other schools have expressed interest. Telp still needs to bulk up a bit to reach his full potential, but the raw skills are there. In the District 3-AAAA title game against Cumberland Valley last December, Telp posted 10 tackles, a sack, a fumble caused and a fumble recovery. A taste of what's to come this season, perhaps? 2010 statsDefense 61 tackles, 13 TFL, 7 sacks, 3 fumbles caused, 2 fumble recoveries
