Reichard named Eastern York basketball coach

Ever since he was a sophomore in high school, Jon Reichard had called it his "dream job." On Thursday night, at the age of 45, he finally attained it. That's when Reichard was approved as Eastern York's new boys' basketball coach, during the school district's scheduled board meeting. "It just fell in place," Reichard said in a phone interview Friday. "I've been ready for this for last 10 years." Reichard has spent a large chunk of his life in Eastern York's basketball program. He played for the Golden Knights. He got his first coaching job at the school as a 19-year-old with Eastern's junior high team. All along, he hoped for a shot at his dream job. "My goal was to teach and coach there since tenth grade," Reichard said. "I know how an Eastern kid thinks. I know how they act. I know what they're up to." This will be Reichard's fourth head coaching stop. He also served stints at York County Tech, Dover and Elizabethtown. Reichard spent the last four seasons working as an assistant coach at Kennard-Dale. The job carries an added bonus: Reichard will get to coach his son Dalton, a rising junior and the team's lone returning starter. Reichard replaces Larry Fisher, whose eight stellar seasons including a 169-54 record, a .758 winning percentage, the 2010 District 3 Class AAA championship and two straight YAIAA tournament titles.
