Marsteller secures sweep at Cadet Nationals

How good was Chance Marsteller this week, at the USA Wrestling Cadet/Junior National Championships in Fargo, N.D.? Here's all you need to know: In 17 matches spread over two competitions (Greco-Roman and freestyle) Marsteller did not allow a single point. Not one. Kennard-Dale's rising sophomore capped his dominating week Friday with his second straight cadet (ages 15-16) freestyle national championship. Marsteller thrashed Oklahoma's Keilan Torres in the 152-pound final, 7-0, 6-0. He also won a Greco-Roman national title on Monday. Marsteller has been nearly untouchable throughout the last year. As a freshman for Kennard-Dale last winter, he went 42-0 and won a PIAA Class AAA 152-pound championship. In other local news, Dover native Brooks Black will be competing Saturday during the final day of the junior freestyle competition. Black, who attends Blair Academy, will wrestle in the fifth-place heavyweight match against Austin Marsden of Illinois.
