Central York picks Schieler as new hoops coach

For the fourth time in seven years, the Central York boys' basketball team has a new coach. The newest member of that quartet is Kevin Schieler, the former Littlestown coach who shepherded the Panthers' junior varsity team last season. Schieler was approved as Central's new varsity coach Monday, during the district's scheduled school board meeting. Schieler will replace Marty Hasenfuss, who accepted the head coaching gig at Central Dauphin East in April. In two seasons with the Panthers, Hasenfuss compiled a 31-18 record. More importantly, Schieler will try to bring some coaching continuity to a program that has lacked it lately. "I don't know how long he wants to coach or is going to coach," Central athletic director Marty Trimmer said, "but it certainly was a factor, in that we can see him coaching for a while here if he wants to." Schieler spent three seasons as the varsity coach Littlestown, from the 2007-08 season to 2009-10. The Thunderbolts went 25-42 in that span. More to come later...
