William Penn's Newby headed to Lock Haven

William Penn center Zachary Newby has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Lock Haven next season, according to a release sent out by the high school. Newby was one of the area's top big men this season. The 6-foot-6 senior averaged a double-double -- 11.5 points and 11.7 rebounds -- for the District 3 Class AAAA champions. Newby notched a double-double in 17 of the Bearcats' 30 games this season. He was selected a second-team YAIAA Division I/II all-star after the season. The Bald Eagles, a member of the PSAC, stumbled to a 1-24 record last season, but recently hired former Shippensburg assistant Michael Nestor as their new head coach.
