YAIAA athlete spotlight: Khaddisha Arnold

Varsity Beat spotlights Central York junior Khaddisha Arnold this week.

When did you start competing in track?
7th grade.

What was it that interested you in it?
In elementary school, we had a track meet and people said I was so fast I should do track in middle school. I said ok, I thought it was cool and didn't really know what it was and just ended up really liking it.

Do you play any other sports?
No. I just focus on track. I do run indoor and outdoor though.

What is the highlight of your track career so far?
Placing in states my freshman year.

What events do you run?
Indoor- 60 meter dash, 200, 4x400. Outdoor- 100, 200, 4x100 and 4x400

Even though it is early in the process, are you hearing from any colleges?
Yes, I have received letters from Goucher, NAVY, and Army.

What's the biggest thrill you get during a meet?
Definitely in the 4x100.  That is my favorite race. You have 3 other people on your team depending on you. Usually all of the other teams are pretty close to the same speed you are. When I start seeing good hand offs, it builds up the intensity because I am the last leg. Being the last leg I feel like I have to bring it home and that's exciting.

What is your favorite night before a meet meal?
My mom's spaghetti

What is one song that you listen to right before a race to get you fired up?
Pretty much anything from Ke$ha

What is one junk food you cannot live without?
Cookies and cream ice cream

What is your favorite TV show?
American Idol

What is the best piece of advice you have received?
Our middle school coach would always yell at you while you were running. He would yell, "Now you go!" and that has stuck with me and I always think of that when I am running.
