Red Lion WR Baublitz headed to St. Francis (Pa.)

Red Lion wide receiver Joe Baublitz has signed a letter of intent to continue his football career at St. Francis, Lions coach Pat Conrad said. Baublitz was Red Lion's second leading receiver last season, hauling in 46 catches for 496 yards and seven touchdowns. He finished his career with 72 catches, the most in program history. The 6-foot-1 senior chose St. Francis, a Division I-FCS school (formerly known as Division I-AA), over offers from Georgetown, Davidson and Bucknell, Conrad said. "We pick three captains -- the coaches pick one, we allow the seniors to pick one, and the rest of the team picks on," Conrad said. "Joe was the coach's pick, mainly because he's the epitome of what we want in a Red Lion football player. Academically he's great, top 15 in his class. Behavior is great. We're just really happy for him. "He really did his nice job (this season). His senior year we had so many weapons at receiver. He was often overshadowed by (leading receiver Branden Kessler), but he was always somebody you can rely on to make plays." The Red Flash are in the process of rebuilding under second-year head coach Chris Villarrial. St. Francis finished 1-10 last season, including 1-7 in Northeast Conference play.
