It's been the secret to York Catholic's success all season. The reason its lineup is so hard to shut down. At any given moment, the Fighting Irish have four players on the court who can drain a big shot. And while Kady Schrann continues to be the pulse of that offense, another player has upped her share of the scoring duties the last few weeks. Junior guard Rachel Forjan has led the Irish in scoring five of the last six games, dating back to York Catholic's YAIAA championship game win over Red Lion. Forjan has averaged 14.5 points in that span. Forjan was already a key contributor last for the Irish, a first-year starter who could hit her share of jump shots. But she seems to have taken the next step this season, into a reliable leader and second scoring option. "Last year, the coaches and I, we'd talk about that Rachel's skill set was there," York Catholic coach Kevin Bankos said. "It was all about self-confidence. If you watch her now, she's a lot more confident. ... Her shot goes as her confidence goes." Then again, the entirety of York Catholic's supporting cast has stepped up, ever since Schrann turned her ankle in the league championship game. (She hasn't missed any time because of the injury, which Bankos said is getting close to full strength.) Schrann hasn't led the team in scoring since the Irish's league semifinal win over Eastern York on Feb. 15. Of course, she hasn't had to. Not with Forjan pouring in jumpers. Or sophomore Morgan Klunk (10 ppg) continuing to provide another offensive outlet. Junior Karli McFatridge (8.1 ppg) has chipped in, too. Not to mention Schrann could still break out for 30 points on any given night. It's no wonder York Catholic (30-0) stands two wins away from a sixth straight PIAA Class AA title game appearance, with a quarterfinal matchup against Mid Valley (24-4) on tap for Friday at Pottsville's Martz Hall at 7:30 p.m.
