YAIAA tripleheader on tap for Monday at the Giant Center

I have a feeling I'm going spending a lot of time at the Giant Center the next week. YAIAA basketball teams went 5-for-6 on Friday night in District 3 playoff action, the lone loss by the Biglerville girls in a Class AA quarterfinal. All those wins set up a YAIAA tripleheader at the Giant Center on Monday. First, the top-seeded Red Lion girls (24-1) will face fifth-seeded Governor Mifflin (22-5) in a District 3 Class AAAA semifinal at 5 p.m. The Lions held off Harrisburg on Friday, 47-35. After that, the defending boys' Class AAA champions Eastern York (23-3) will face 10th-seeded Lampeter-Strasburg (19-7) at 6:30 p.m. The third-seeded Golden Knights held off a dogged Bishop McDevitt side, 47-42, on Friday, while the Pioneers stunned second-seeded Trinity. Finally, in the other Class AAA boys' semifinal at 8 p.m., playoff newcomers Northeastern (18-6) will try to upset top-seeded Lancaster Catholic (24-1). The fifth-seeded Bobcats used a fourth-quarter comeback to topple Annville-Cleona, 42-39, Friday. Meanwhile, York Catholic and Delone Catholic both cruised in their respective girls' Class AA quarterfinals Friday. Those two seem to be on a collision course to meet in the finals at the Giant Center on Thursday at 6:15 p.m.
