York Catholic, Vo-Tech hire new football coaches

Breaking news came in twos Thursday, when both York Catholic and York County Tech announced that they had hired new football coaches. First, York Catholic sent out a release Thursday afternoon that it had hired former Red Land defensive coordinator Eric DePew. I spoke with DePew this afternoon, and you can read my story on his hiring here. This will be DePew's first head coaching job. "York County is tough football down here," said DePew, who also spent four years on Dover's staff from 2003-06. "I really enjoyed it when I was at Dover. There's great coaches down here, great players. There's great tradition down here. I'm glad to be back." Later Thursday, York County Tech sent out a release stating that it had hired former Biglerville and William Penn coach Tim Hibbs. Hibbs spent last season working as an assistant coach at Gettysburg. He stepped down from his head coaching position at William Penn last August, just weeks before the season, after his job as a social studies teacher at the school was furloughed. Attempts to reach Hibbs on Thursday night were unsuccessful.
