Frank Hawkins back at RLC

Frank Hawkins said he wouldn't have missed seeing Logan Steckel surpass him as Red Lion Christian's all-time leading scorer.

Hawkins, is a legend at RLC. He graduated from the school in 1995, after scoring 2,573 points during his career with the Swordsmen.

On Saturday, Hawkins was back at the school watching Steckel fly past him during a 42-point performance,, which gives the senior 2,598 career points.

Hawkins looked around the gym, stirring up fond memories.

"It has not changed for the most part," he laughed. "The scoreboard wasn't here when I was."

He was thrilled to see Steckel in action.

"We've stayed in contact the last couple of weeks," Hawkins said. "There is a new name up there. My wife said I am going to be No. 2 now. That's ok."

Both Hawkins and Steckel played for RLC coach Dave Klinedinst. We asked Klinediinst to comapre the two.

"They are different. Logan is more the point guard bringing the ball up the floor," Klinedinst said. "He is an amazing passer. He's very unselfish. Sometimes you have to tell him to shoot a little more.".

"Frank was more the scorer. Throw him the ball when you need a score. Frank is one of the best drivers I have seen. He could take it to the hole on anybody. He could take over a game too,"
