A few recruiting updates to pass along... The YAIAA's best boys' basketball team (so far, at least) may not have a flashy Division I recruit. But William Penn does have a few players garnering some interest. Bearcats coach Troy Sowers said Thursday that Kelvin Parker, the reigning YAIAA Division I/II player of the year, has an offer from South Carolina Aiken, and plans to fly down to visit the school this weekend. USC Aiken has developed one of the better Division II programs in the country, winning a total of 72 games the previous three seasons. There is a local connection, as well. Pacers coach Vince Alexander spent two seasons as William Penn's basketball coach during the 1995-96 and 1996-97 seasons. Certainly, that would seem to make USC Aiken a good fit. Sowers said Parker also has plenty of interest from more local Division II schools, including Bloomsburg, Philadelphia University, Millersville, Kutztown and Shippensburg. Meanwhile, Parker is now 42 points away from becoming William Penn's all-time leading scorer. We should see him hit that milestone soon enough. As for Zach Newby, William Penn's 6-foot-6 forward, Sowers said the senior has received strong interest lately from Division III Messiah College. Newby is averaging a double-double this season for the Bearcats. Meanwhile, Spring Grove wrestling coach Tony Miller confirmed tonight that 145-pound senior Trey Duncan has committed to wrestle at Navy. The commitment was listed on the wrestling website InterMat earlier this week. Hat tip to @regularguy for the heads up.
