"Special night" at Dallastown

Even though the Dallastown boys' basketball team suffered a narrow loss to William Penn on Wednesday night, it was still a noteworthy night for the Wildcats program. Before the game, Dallastown honored its 1976 team, which won the York-Adams League tournament that year. Several members of the team were present, and each was announced before the game. Then, with 25.3 seconds left in the first quarter, Dallastown senior Four McGlynn drained a 3-pointer to become the school's all-time leading boys' scorer. He passed the former record of 1,616 points set in 1976 by Bill Rutecki, who was in attendance for the event. After McGlynn's shot, Rutecki took the microphone and presented the commemorative game ball to McGlynn. The senior, who will play next season at Vermont, finished with a team-high 19 points for the Wildcats in their 57-49 defeat. "It's a special night," Dallastown coach Troy Smeltzer said. "It's special for someone who held the record for 35 years to come back and share that moment with Four." Dallastown (16-3, 11-2 in Division I) will host Central York on Friday, and will almost certainly be a No. 2 seed in the upcoming YAIAA tournament.
