Zeller to sign with Maryland tomorrow
No surprise here, but in honor of tomorrow's National Signing Day (a Christmas of sorts for college football junkies) I figured I'd pass along this bit of confirmation: Red Lion lineman Andrew Zeller does indeed plan to sign his letter of intent to Maryland tomorrow morning at the high school. Weather permitting, of course. The last time we hard from Zeller was early last month, shortly after York County's own Randy Edsall was hired as the Terrapins new coach. Zeller gave every indication that he planned to follow through on his commitment to Maryland, although he did add in one or two qualifiers. "I'm pretty set," Zeller said on Jan. 5. "I'm kind of waiting to see the coaching staff, all the other assistant positions and who's hired there. But for the most part I'm set." Zeller also said then he would consider taking a visit or two to another school. But it turns out the 6-foot-6, 290-pound senior never really wavered from his original decision. "He's pretty committed to Maryland, even with all the changes and stuff," Red Lion coach Pat Conrad said. "He was just looking out for his best interests and we were just keeping the door open." Conrad added that Edsall's decision to retain offensive line coach Tom Brattan -- who played a role in Zeller's recruitment -- made the decision easier. So there you go. That might be the closest you get to news on what should be a relatively quiet signing day in York and Adams Counties.
