Basketball will take a backseat Friday night, when the Eastern York girls' basketball team hosts Fairfield in a YAIAA crossover matchup. The Golden Knights will use the evening to honor sophomore Breeanna Taylor, a member of Eastern's JV team, who was diagnosed with leukemia last Friday. The team is asking all fans in attendance to wear orange -- the color used to represent the fight against leukemia -- and orange bracelets will be sold to raise money for Taylor's treatment. There will also be a bake sale to help the fundraising efforts. Taylor is currently at Penn State's Milton S. Hershey Medical Center undergoing chemotherapy treatments. She is expected to miss the rest of the school year while she receives treatment. Those interested in following her progress can do so at caringbridge.org by going to website and typing in "breeannataylor" in the "visit site" search box. Or you can get there by clicking this link. "The girls have all this completely on their own, so I'm extremely proud of them," Eastern girls' coach Bob Heiser said Wednesday. "We just want to do whatever we can to help Bree." The Eastern-Fairfield JV game will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, with the varsity game to follow around 7:30 p.m. Be sure to check out Friday's paper for more on how the team is supporting Breeanna in her battle.
