Liberty High School's win over Allen provided the ending sports fans wish for

The Liberty High School boy's basketball team was down by two with 17 seconds left and it appeared that William Allen HS had the game all wrapped up.  All they needed to do was in-bounds the ball, Liberty would probably foul, and then William Allen would seal the deal by making their free throws.  Liberty had other plans.  First, they deflected the inbounds pass and then got the ball to Darrun Hillard who hit a last second three pointer to give Liberty the thrilling win 50-49.


Cedar Cliff snaps 21-game losing streak to Red Land

The date was December 4th, 1999.  That was the last time that Cedar Cliff beat Red Land.  Friday night, the Cedar Cliff boy's basketball team came out loose and confident that this year would be the year they snapped the streak.  They did just that, defeating Red Land 67-49 to improve to 10-2 on the season while Red Land dropped to 9-3.


Becahi wrestlers upends Nazareth

Led by Elliot Riddick, Bethlehem edged Nazareth 33-25.  This was the first time in school history that Bethlehem has been victorious against Nazareth.   Elliot Riddick was wrestling in a weight class that was 30 pounds above his weight and he was going against two-time state medalist Ryan Krecker who was 11-0 on the season.  Despite the odds stacked against him, Riddick defeated Krecker 2-1 in overtime to give Bethlehem the momentum that they needed to pull out the upset.


No. 3 Monessen girls slip past Serra

Ranked No. 3 in Class AA, the Monessen girl's basketball team needed to employ a stingy defense in the final seconds of their game Friday night against Serra Catholic to remain undefeated.   Their 54-53 victory improved their record to 10-0 on the season.  Monessen was led by Chelsea Szakal who finished the night with 19 points to lead all scorers.


Germantown Academy girls top Penn Charter

For the past twelve years, the Germantown Academy girls basketball team have won the Inter-AC League Championship.  This year many people thought would be the toughest to repeat.  Germantown Academy however, is not listening to the critics.  They defeated Penn Charter last night 65-46 to improve to 4-0 in the league.  Germantown Academy is ranked No. 30 in the nation by ESPN and Penn Charter was ranked 41st.


Manheim Township grad Valentin selected 4th overall in the MLS draft

2008 Manheim Township grad Zarek Valentin had his dream come true Thursday.  After spending two season at Akron University and helping them to an NCAA Championship this season, Valentin was selected fourth overall at the MLS Draft on Thursday by Chivas USA.
