Red Lion to face District 3's best

When the Red Lion football team heads to Hershey next Saturday for its District 3-AAAA final, the Lions will be matched up with the area's most accomplished, playoff-tested program. Cumberland Valley (11-2) has been a fixture in these sort of games over the years. Since the PIAA expanded to four classes in 1985, no big-school program has had more success in the District 3 tournament. Saturday's contest will mark the 26th District 3-AAAA championship game since that expansion. Cumberland Valley has now qualified for 15 of those championship games, and will be going for its 10 district title at the quad-A level. Talk about staggering success. The Eagles also won a pair of district titles at the triple-A level before the class expansion, giving them 11 total D-3 championships.
