Other YAIAA football rivalries
Over the years the Dallastown-Red Lion rivalry has been one of the best in the area. This year, of course, is no exception with a Division I title on the line. However, those schools do not hold a patent when it comes to having an arch nemesis. Here is a look at some of the other YAIAA football rivalries:
William Penn - Central York: This is another one of those annual games where the records don't matter when the schools play each other. The two schools were located close together until Central moved out to Springettsbury Township. However, that has not changed the sometimes-hard feelings when these two get together. Both usually have great athletes, which provides some interesting matchups on the field.
West York - Dover: The "Route 74 Rivalry" was renewed this season after Dover dropped back to Division II. It's another one of those rivalries dictated by location because the two school districts border each other. Usually, one or both of their football teams are pretty good, but even in lean times, a victory over the other can make a season.
York Suburban - York Catholic: Once again, location, location, location. These two schools are less than two miles apart and for many years were of similar size, making the games more intriguing. Big crowds watched these teams play even before each had lights at their field.
Delone Catholic - Littlestown: Not only do these two give the typical private vs. public school rivalry, they aren't located far apart, either. The fact that both have been District 3 Class AA powers over the past several seasons only adds to the rivalry. Even when the two schools were in separate divisions, they played each other. In fact, in 2009 they faced each other twice, once during the season and again in districts. Anytime Delone, Hanover or South Western get together, the word rivalry comes into play.
Bermudian Springs - Biglerville: It's the closest rival for Biglerville, which sits at the far west end of the YAIAA. But there is more to it. The two sides have played each other for several seasons, and both usually play a bruising, run-first style.
