Trone could boost West York's backfield

West York's offense should get a boost this week with the return of running back Zach Trone.

The senior, who missed the first two games of the season while he shored up his academics, will be in uniform Friday night for the Bulldogs' pivotal crossover clash with Division I hopefuls Spring Grove.

West York coach Ron Miller said Trone will start against the Rockets.

"He will be our feature back," Miller said Thursday. "No doubt about it."

Trone is small (5-foot-7, 150 pounds) but his speed will provide a welcome addition. He is the Bulldogs leading returning rusher from last year, though with his contributions were modest. He finished the season with 176 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries.

Trone's return will bring another added benefit: It will allow junior Jerrin Toomey, who started West York's season opener at tailback, to move back to his natural position of wide receiver.

West York is coming off what Miller termed a disappointing loss to Governor Mifflin last week. The Bulldogs managed just 164 yards of total offense in a 25-7 defeat. Miller placed plenty of importance on Friday's contest.

"I think our season teeters on this game, I really do," Miller said.
