Next YAIAA hoops player to watch: Elijah Cooper

Within the last month and a half, we've seen three YAIAA basketball players commit to Division I schools. First, Dallastown guard Four McGlynn verballed Vermont. Then, two weeks ago, Eastern York seniors Andrew Nicholas and Austin Tillotson committed together to Monmouth.

So who's the next York-Adams basketball player to keep an eye on?

Meet Elijah Cooper.

Cooper, a 6-foot-2 junior point guard at Northeastern, flew under the radar a bit last season, despite earning YAIAA Division I/II second team honors. But Cooper put together a solid summer on the AAU circuit, and has already taken unofficial visits to several mid-level Division I schools.

Among the stops Cooper listed: Penn, Bucknell, Rider, George Mason and Princeton. Several other Patriot and Ivy League schools have also shown interest, and Cooper plans to visit Yale in September.

No schools have offered the junior yet, but that's not exactly surprising given his age. Tillotson didn't pick up his first offer until this June.

Cooper played for two AAU teams this summer -- a more local squad, PA Elite, and the Philadelphia-based Team Phenom. He was named to the all-tournament team at the HoopGroup Pitt Jamfest.

"I really had a good summer," Cooper said. "That pretty much got me a lot of looks."
