Heinold approved as Willaim Penn football coach

Longtime William Penn assistant Shawn Heinold has been officially named the Bearcats new football coach.

The York City school board unanimously approved Heinold as acting coach at its committee meeting Wednesday night. Heinold replaces Tim Hibbs, who resigned from his post last week after having his teaching job furloughed by the district.

William Penn athletic director Chaz Green said Heinold, who was not present at the meeting, was a logical choice to replace Hibbs. Heiniold teaches health and physical education at William Penn, and has been on the Bearcats staff for ten seasons. He served as offensive coordinator last year.

"The kids respect him and love him dearly," Green said. "With coach Hibbs leaving, in the back of my head I knew something like this could come up. The first person I thought of was coach Heinold."

Heinold's appointment is an interim one, at least for now. Green said the school will open up the football coach job at the end of the season, but added he hopes Heinold will reapply for the position. Fall practices for the 2010 season begin Monday.
