Hepler, Tucci picked for Mid-Atlantic showcase

A pair of local pitchers qualified to play in the 2010 Mid-Atlantic High School Baseball Crab Claw Classic this past weekend.

West York right-hander Kaden Hepler and York Catholic southpaw Alex Tucci (pictured above) were among the more than 180 players who traveled to Joe Cannon Stadium in Hanover, Md., last Friday to compete in what is typically regarded as one of the top showcases in the Mid-Atlantic region. The event attracted more than 40 college and pro scouts.

Both players performed well enough Friday to be selected to the North squad (Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware) for Saturday's all-star game. Hepler received the top pitcher award and was selected to start the game. He threw two innings.

Hepler is coming off a fine sophomore season in which he was a YAIAA Division I all-star selection. He finished with a 1.73 ERA and a 9-1 record in 14 appearances (8 starts). Hepler struck out 103 and walked 58 in 73 innings.

Hepler is also expected to take over as West York starting quarterback this fall.

Tucci, a rising senior, was the ace of York Catholic's staff this season and a Division IV all-star pick.
