Three local teams to play in PPL East Division

Three YAIAA football teams will get an early peek at each other this weekend.

Dallastown, William Penn and Northeastern will all compete in the Pennsylvania Passing League East (PPL) Division Event this Saturday at Susquehanna Township High School. Dallastown and William Penn committed to the event a while ago (as previously posted here), while Northeastern was a more recent addition.

In total, 16 teams will compete in the PPL East Division, a 7-on-7 touch football tournament played on 40-yard fields. The winner of Saturday's event will play an exhibition against West Division winner, Gateway, at halftime of the Pittsburgh Steelers' Aug. 14 preseason game against the Detroit Lions at Heinz Field.

Of course, William Penn has a bit of uncertainty surrounding its coaching position. Tim Hibbs recently had his social studies teaching position at the school furloughed, and has been "continuing preparations" for the season while he waits for the York City school board's decision (expected at its regular meeting tonight) whether to go though with the issuing of furloughs to at least 24 teachers.

For a complete list of teams playing and more details, head to the PPL East Division's website.

EDITOR'S NOTE: A previous version of this post had stated Red Lion was going to play in the PPL East Division. That is incorrect. An email sent Wednesday by the PPL incorrectly identified Red Lion as one of the tournament's participants. The PPL later corrected the error, stating Red Land, not Red Lion, will compete in the event.
