Geiman steps down as Mustangs girls' hoops coach

Shannon Geiman has resigned as the girls' basketball coach at South Western after seven mostly successful seasons with the school.

Geiman's resignation for personal reasons was accepted Wednesday night at the South Western Area School District directors' meeting. She took over for Mike Sanders after the 2002-03 season, and helped direct the Mustangs to one of their most fruitful periods since the mid-1980s.

Geiman ended up with an 82-84 career record at the school, although her team's finished with a winning record five out of seven seasons. She led South Western to a nice turnaround campaign last season, guiding the Mustangs to a 14-8 record a year after they finished well below .500. South Western qualified for the YAIAA tournament and District 3 tournaments last winter.

No replacement for Geiman was announced at the meeting.
