York to host state's top volleyball talent ... Again

For the second straight week, York County will play home to some of the state's premier boys' volleyball talent.

Last week, Northeastern hosted the king-sized Bobcat Invitational, which bought several of Pennsylvania's most elite programs. On Saturday, many of those same teams will descend on Central York High School for the 2010 Koller Classic.

Here's a sampling of some of the teams that will be one hand:

-- Northeastern, the top-ranked Class AA boys' volleyball team in the state, according to the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association.

-- Fellow Class AA powerhouses Derry (ranked 2nd in the state in double-A), Ambridge (5th in double-A) and Cambridge Springs.

-- St. Peter's Prep of New Jersey, which is ranked 35th nationally by ESPN Rise.

-- Pennsbury, the top-ranked AAA team in the state and the No. 36 team in the nation according to ESPN. Pennsbury won the Bobcat Invitational last weekend.

-- Other Class AAA contenders include North Allegheny (37th nationally), Hempfield, State College and Chambersburg.

And, of course, one can't forget host Central York which is rated 41st nationally by ESPN and is 3rd in the state. (Interesting, no love for Northeastern in those rankings.)

In all, the tournament will feature 20 teams. Varsity action starts at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. Ticket prices each day are $5 for adults and $2 for students.
