York Catholic girls quarterfinal

Final: The Irish hold on for a 53-43 victory. York Catholic will advance to the Class AA state semifinal for the fifth straight season.

Fourth quarter: York Catholic has survived a physical game against Dunmore. The Irish lead 46-32 with 1:49 to play.

Both Brittany Hicks and Karli McFatridge pulled themselves off the floor after taking nasty spills. But Dunmore has missed several jumpers and keeps sending the Irish to the line after every foul -- because York Catholic reached the double-bonus early in the quarter.

Third quarter: York Catholic leads 32-23 after three quarters.

Dunmore

cut York Catholic's lead to three points as the Irish failed to score a

point in the third quarter until Brittany Hicks hit a pair of free

throws with 3:14 to play. York Catholic scored one field goal in the

entire period.

Neither team played well in the quarter as both teams have committed several turnovers, combining for 20 turnovers.

First half: The Irish girls are in control of their Class AA state quarterfinal matchup against Dunmore, leading 24-13 at the half.

Kady

Schrann has a team-high nine points and Karli McFatridge has added six

points. York Catholic shot 11-of-19 from the floor in the first half.

And they survived a scare as forward Brittany Hicks left the floor at

3:14.

Hicks fell backwards onto the floor during a loose ball

scramble underneath the Dunmore hoop. Once she left the game, she sat

on the bench coughing and holding her shoulder. The Irish went into a

stall while Hicks sat on the bench and eventually McFatridge hit an

open layup with six seconds left before halftime.

Dunmore's Ashley Murray has a team-high five points.

The game is a rematch of last season's state quarterfinal, including the location. York Catholic rallied from a deficit to win last season.

The winner of this matchup will play the Lancaster Mennonite/Delone Catholic quarterfinal. Mennonite defeated Delone in the District 3 semifinals, but had a poor effort against the Irish in the district championship game -- as the Blazers hesitated to shoot open jumpers.
