Day 1 of the PIAA swimming championships

LEWISBURG - Several YAIAA swimmers will be competing in Wednesday evenings finals and consolations at the PIAA Class AAA championships at Bucknell University.

Red Lion's Morgan Pfaff placed third during the preliminaries of the 200 individual medlay, which assures the sophomore of winning a state medal in Wednesday evening's finals. Her preliminary time was a fantastic 2:04.84.

Dallastown's Julie Brown will swim in tonight's consolations after placing 11th in the 50 freestyle prelim. Her time was 24.26.

The senior will also get to swim in the 200 free relay consolations, along with teammates Jen Flinchbaugh, Shelley O'Conor and Laura Miller. The foursome was 15th after prelims with a time of 1:39.59.

Fellow Wildcat Girard Woody placed 26th in the boys 100 butterfly in 52.73.

Of note: Spring Grove senior Allie Jenkins capped her outstanding career in this morning's 200 IM with a 2:12.89, good enough for 28th, which in AAA in Pennsylvania is a great way to go out .. Gettysburg senior Emily Weaner will reach the medal stand again this evening in the 100 fly after finishing fourth in prelims (56.42) .... Central York's Brandon Murphy went a 22.61 in the boys' 50 free, but did not make the consolation finals and also capped a great high school career ...  A pair of Red Land swimmers, Claire Loht (girls' 200 free, 1:51.88) and Luke Trimmer (boys' 200 free, 1:40.92) will be in tonight's finals.
