Matchups set for PIAA hoops playoffs


In case you missed it, first-round play of the boys' and girls' PIAA basketball playoffs will get under way this Friday and Saturday. Eight York-Adams teams (four boys, four girls) have qualified for the state playoffs.

Here are the matchups, times and locations for this week's first round of games. The highlight of the weekend will be Friday's doubleheader at Dallastown involving the Eastern York boys and York Catholic girls, the YAIAA's two district champions this year.

FRIDAY

-- The Eastern York boys (28-0), the top seed from District 3 in the Class AAA bracket, will face Coughlin (19-8), the third seed from District 2, at 7:30 p.m. at Dallastown High School.

-- The District 3, Class AA champion York Catholic girls (24-3) will meet Bodine (14-6), the fourth-seed from District 12, at 6 p.m. at Dallastown High School.

-- The York Suburban boys (22-5) take on Greater Johnstown (21-3), the top seed from District 6, at 7:30 p.m. at Richland High School in the Class AAA tournament.

-- The Red Lion girls (24-4) will open the Class AAAA tournament against Hazleton Area (20-6), the top seed from District 2, at 7 p.m. at Weatherly Area Middle School.

-- The Delone Catholic girls (20-5) meet Friere Charter (21-5), the top seed in District 12, in the Class AA tournament at 7:30 p.m. at Germantown High School.

SATURDAY

-- The William Penn boys (23-6) will open the Class AAAA tournament against Bayard Rustin (23-4), the No. 3 seed out of District 1, at 7 p.m. at Coatesville Area High School.

-- The Hanover boys (18-6), who knocked off Delone on Friday to qualify for the Class AA state tourney, get the top seed from District 12, Imhotep Charter (22-5), at 5 p.m. at South Philadelphia High School.

-- The West York girls (27-2) start off the Class AAA tournament against Mt. Saint Joseph Academy (23-4), the third-seed from District 1, at 4 p.m. (this time has been changed from the original start time of 1:30) at Central Dauphin East High School.
