YAIAA girls' hoops end-of-season rankings

1. West York (1) -- The Bulldogs (21-0) will roll into the start of the YAIAA tournament (whenever it happens) with their unblemished record in tact. West York is the highest scoring girls team in the league (58.7 ppg), but they'll have a tough road to a second straight county title.

2. Red Lion (2) -- The Lions (19-2) are no doubt the least enjoyable team in the league to play -- their blitzkreig defensive style has helped Red Lion allow a league low 29.2 ppg. And a peak at the latest District 3 power rankings reveals the Lions are right now rated the top team in Class AAAA. Take from that what you will.

3. York Catholic (3) -- The Irish (19-2) trotted out perhaps their best performance of the season in a senior night victory over Delone Catholic. Kady Schrann and Brittany Hicks might be the best 1-2 punch in the league -- they're second and tenth, respectively, in the YAIAA in scoring.

4. Delone Catholic (4) -- The Squirettes (17-3) blew a chance at an outright Division IV title with Monday's loss at York Catholic. But they'll be a second seed in the YAIAA tournament, and will be a tough out for anybody in that competition.

5. South Western (5) -- Several years ago, Mustangs coach Shannon Geiman watched her current senior class play West York's heralded senior class in a junior high championship game. The Bulldogs won that day. Can South Western's seniors earn a rematch this year? It won't be easy, but who expected the Mustangs (14-6) to be a No. 2 seed in this tournament anyway?

6. Kennard-Dale (8) -- The Rams (12-7) are one of the hottest teams in the area, having won five in a row to help clinch a share of the Division II title. But can they give West York a game in the opening round of the county tournament? We'll see.

7. Spring Grove (6) -- Hard to find much fault in the Rockets 15-5 record. They're fourth in the league in scoring and team defense. Alas, thanks to tiebreakers Spring Grove lost out on a spot in the YAIAA tourney to the Rams.

8. New Oxford (7) -- The Colonials (15-6) will play Delone Catholic in the first round of the county playoffs. They'll need their YAIAA second-best defense to slow down Sierra Moore to have a chance at the upset.

9. Dallastown (9) -- Mary Kurnat didn't step into an easy situation in her first season. But the Wildcats play hard every night and compete on defense, and that's a big reason why they're 13-8 and heading to the district playoffs.

10. Eastern York (10) -- The Golden Knights (11-10) held high-scoring West York to 42 points in a recent game, and can seal a spot in the YAIAA tournament with a win against Littlestown on Saturday.
