Friday night's scheduled girls' basketball showdown between York Catholic and Delone Catholic is shaping up as one of the most anticipated girls' hoops games of the year. Two rivals, duking it out in a game that will likely decide the Division IV championship.

And in the process, the two girls' hoops powers will use the stage to help raise money for breast cancer awareness.

The "Hoops for Hope" event was coordinated by York Catholic senior Brittany Hicks, according to an email release from the school. Both teams will wear special pink uniforms, and more than 300 pink T-shirts have been sold for the event, and fans are encouraged to wear pink. Proceeds from this event will benefit charities that promote awareness for cancer research, according the the release.

It seems in the past year we've seen an uptick in athletes at the high school, college and professional levels working to raise awareness for breast cancer. Still, it always neat to see high-schoolers take this sort of initiative for a good cause, and the attention this game will command (weather permitting) will only help spread the message further.

Delone won the first meeting between these two teams, 60-57, on Jan. 11. The Squirettes (17-2, 11-1) are a game-and-a-half above York Catholic (18-2, 9-2) in the Division IV standings

Moore close to 1,000: Delone super soph Sierra Moore just 35 points away from 1,000 for her brief, unbelievable considering she doesn't even have two full varsity seasons under her belt.

Hitting the mark Friday night against York Catholic might be a stretch. But Delone has two other regular season games on its schedule: Saturday against New Oxford and Tuesday against Kennard-Dale (both at home). Considering Moore is averaging 22 ppg so far, it's a good bet she reaches 1,000 before the playoffs hit.
