Eastern's Smith headed to Penn State

First off, my apologies for the lacking of blogging the last week. It's been a busy few days to say the least.

In any event, a local prep athlete has recently committed his college future to Penn State.

Eastern York junior Ryky Smith verbally committed to the Nittany Lions baseball program recently. Smith, also a starting guard on the Golden Knights undefeated basketball team, earned the offer despite the fact his junior baseball season is still more than a month away. Pretty darn impressive.

"I just wanted to get it out of the way. It felt good getting it cleared up," Smith said Friday after the Eastern basketball team's win over Delone Catholic. "I went up there for two camps the last couple summers, and I just love everything up there. They have the best facilities in the country."

Smith said neither he or the Penn State coaches are totally sure what position he'll play once he gets to State College. He's played shortstop for Eastern.

"Infield or outfield, I'm a utility kind of guy," Smith said. "As long as I'm in between the lines I'm good."
