YAIAA boys' basketball power rankings 1/27

With just four games to go in the regular season, it's time to check in with another round of power rankings.

The boys are up first. Last week's ranking is in parentheses.

1. Eastern York (1) -- Ho hum. The Golden Knights (17-0) keep winning, and they keep winning easily -- Eastern still, hasn't won by less than double digits. Andrew Nicholas and Austin Tillotson continue to put up points, but role guys like seniors Nathan Bollinger and Luke Barto are playing their part, too. The Knights are currently ranked No. 1 in District 3 by The Patriot-News.

2. William Penn (3) -- Coach Troy Sowers said his Bearcats have been a different team since losing to Red Lion two weeks go. Indeed, William Penn (15-3) has won four straight since then, including a 85-52 demolition of Central York on Tuesday. Afterward, junior Kelvin Parker called it William Penn's best all-around performance of the season.

3. York Suburban (2) -- The Trojans (16-1) won their fifth in a row against Littlestown on Tuesday, but there were some shaky moments. One has to think Suburban has an eye cast toward next Friday, and a rematch with Eastern York.

4. Red Lion (3) -- The Lions can be a Jekyll and Hyde sort of team. When they shoot well (ie: against William Penn two weeks ago) they can hang with anybody. When they don't (ie: Tuesday's loss to Dallastown) it can be a long night.

5. Central York (5) -- Tuesday's 33-point blowout at William Penn was a shock to the Panthers system after six straight wins. But let's face it, few expected Central (11-5) to be good this fast. And the Panthers can redeem themselves with a win at Red Lion on Friday.

6. West York (7) -- After losses to Central and William Penn, the Bulldogs (10-5) rebounded to score a huge win against Dover on Tuesday. That all but seeled another Division II title for the Bulldogs.

7. Hanover (6) -- Losses to York Suburban and Eastern York last week bought the Nighthawks' season to a screeching halt. But Hanover (13-3) is still well-positioned to make a postseason run, and holds a two-game lead over York Catholic in Division IV.

8. Delone Catholic (9) -- Last week's loss to Spring Grove was a poor one, but the Squires (12-5) responded well with wins over South Western and Kennard-Dale. Ryan Tompkins leads Delone with 13.4 ppg.

9. Dover (8) -- The Eagles (11-7) have lost three in a row, although in fairness those defeats came to William Penn, Red Lion and West York. Dover has played the Bulldogs tough twice, and both times they've come up just short.

10. Dallastown (NR) -- The Wildcats (8-8) finally broke through and earned a signature win on Tuesday, topping Red Lion. Really, such a win was a long time coming for a Dallastown team that played West York, William Penn and Eastern York close.
