Dallastown's McGlynn closing in on 1,000

When it comes to high school basketball, a player hitting 1,000 career points is a rare feat.

To do it as a junior? Even rarer.

That's what Dallastown guard Four McGlynn will try to accomplish on Friday. The junior heads into the Wildcats' home game Friday against Susquehannock (6-7, 4-5 in Division II) just 22 points shy of 1,000 for his career.

All the more impressive considering McGlynn didn't play varsity as a freshman.

Correction: The above statement is incorrect. McGlynn did play as a freshman, even starting the final eight games of the season. My apologies for the error.

McGlynn is averaging a league-best 22.7 points per game this year, meaning he has a solid chance at reaching that magic number Friday. It won't come easy, though. Susquehannock is third in the YAIAA in total defense, allowing 40.5 points per game.

The milestone -- when he does reach it -- will be even sweeter for McGlynn, considering he's barely more than six months removed from emergency surgery to remove a cyst from his brain.

McGlynn would be the second YAIAA athlete this week to hit the 1,000-point plateau. West York girls' senior Paige Elliott passed the mark during the Bulldogs win over Biglerville on Tuesday night. Also earlier this season, Eastern York junior guard Austin Tillotson reached the 1,000-point mark.

If McGlynn doesn't hit 1,000 on Friday, he would likely reach it Saturday when Dallastown (6-8, 4-5 Division I) visits Governor Mifflin.
