Rough District season for local AAA teams

The last week has been a brutal one for local field hockey and boys' soccer teams in the District 3 Class AAA playoffs.

Class AAA teams from those two sports went a combined 0-8 this week in the Districts. The YAIAA team was the higher seed in five of those eight losses.

Dallastown in particular had a rough week. The Wildcats field hockey team -- the No. 1 seed in the district - lost its Round of 16 game, 2-1 in overtime, to Manheim Central. Two days later, the second-seeded Dallastown's boys' soccer team crashed out of the district tournament in its first game, a 4-2 loss to Chambersburg.

The YAIAA's AAA field hockey teams went a combined 0-5, with No. 7 seed New Oxford also losing despite getting a first-round bye. In boys' soccer, South Western and Central York lost their first round games, with the Panthers falling in overtime to Exeter.

All of which makes you hope the AAA girls' volleyball teams in the area aren't paying attention to the trend.

On a more positive note, Dallastown's Chuck Lockwood won the district cross country title on Wednesday, and the Wildcats teams placed third in Class AAA to qualify for the state championships. Also, Central York's tandem of Jennifer Learmonth and Maggie Golden took third in the District in girls' tennis doubles. Learmonth finished fourth in the District singles tournament.
