YAIAA football Week 6 power rankings

In honor of Columbus Day, we bring the power rankings to you a day early this week. For the first time all year, this week's Top 10 includes the same ten teams from last week's rankings. They aren't all necessarily in the same spots, though.

Check them out and see who moved up and who dropped off.

Editor's note: Number in parentheses represents previous week's ranking.

1. West York (1) -- After three lopsided wins, the Bulldogs (6-0) will face a stiffer test is this weekend's marquee matchup, a Saturday-afternoon visit to Division II challengers York Suburban. West York moved into sole possession of first place in the District 3 Class AAA power-point rankings this week.

2. South Western (2) -- Want to know how good the Mustangs' (6-0) defense is? Good enough that South Western had six turnovers against Spring Grove on Friday, and still didn't allow a point in a 21-0 win. Five interceptions by quarterback Ian Smith provides reason for concern, however.

3. William Penn (3) -- Another week, another win for the Bearcats (6-0). This one, a 35-7 win against New Oxford, took place without dynamic quarterback Kelvin Parker. He was suspended for a game for violating a school rule. William Penn travels to reeling Dallastown on Friday.

4. Delone Catholic (4) -- The Squires (5-1) keep rolling along - they trounced York County Tech 55-8 Friday. Tailback Dustin Reed is a big play waiting to happen, having gone for 149 all-purpose yards and three scores Friday on just seven touches. Delone faces a difficult crossover matchup this weekend, when it hosts Division II foe Littlestown.

5. Central York (6) -- The Panthers (4-2) continued their resurgence with - what else? - another impressive effort on defense. This time, Central forced seven turnovers in a 34-7 victory against Dallastown. The Panthers have forced 18 turnovers in their last four games, all wins.

6. York Suburban (5) -- The Trojans (5-1) drop a spot this week after a so-so showing against Eastern York. You can't blame Suburban for looking ahead, though, with West York on the horizon. It's a game the Trojans have no doubt had targeted for months.

7. Littlestown (7) -- The Bolts (5-1) posted an impressive win against Kennard-Dale last weekend, even out-rushing the run-heavy Rams offense. Littlestown has another shot to open some eyes this weekend, when it visits Division III power Delone Catholic.

8. Red Lion (9) -- A big win against Dover moves the Lions (3-3) up a spot this week. But if sophomore quarterback Chad Kelly is suspended for a considerable amount of time, can Red Lion be successful?

9. Bermudian Springs (10) -- The Eagles (4-2) continued a solid season with a win against Susquehannock on Friday. Head coach Jon DeFoe has done an impressive coaching job, considering all the players Bermudian lost to graduation. Tailback Jeisson Lloret (758 rushing yards) is a stud.

10. Kennard-Dale (8) -- Friday's loss to Littlestown aside, the Rams (3-3) are still a squad that can cause teams problems with their size and strength. They start a stretch of three straight home games this weekend when Northeastern visits.
