Red Lion's Kelly breaks single-game passing mark

Correction time. In our coverage of Red Lion's 40-23 victory over Spring Grove on Friday night, I focused the game story Chad Kelly's eye-popping five-touchdown, 287-yard passing performance.

Late in the story, I mentioned that Kelly, a sophomore, "fell short of Red Lion record for passing yards in a game of 314, set by Taylor Green in 2005."

Well, turns out that wasn't quite true.

Kelly did in fact break the Red Lion record for passing yards in a game. The previous record -- set by the same Taylor Green in 2005 -- was actually 271 yards. Kelly's five touchdowns also set a new school record, besting the previous mark of four scores by Ethan Becker in 2007 and Green in 2005.

Kelly finished 12-of-18 passing, and added 66 rushing yards to his career throwing day. He broke the school's single-game passing mark on a 31-yard touchdown strike to James Morton early in the fourth quarter.

So upon further review: Mea culpa, Chad. Mea culpa.
