YAIAA football Week 4 power rankings

Now that we have the real rankings out of the way, we can move on to the more fun ones -- our weekly YAIAA football power rankings.

As promised, there was quite a shake-up this week with the start of divisional play. Five of the Top 10 teams from last week lost, leaving room for three new teams to vault into the rankings. But for the fourth straight week, the top two teams stayed the same.

There might not be quite as much movement next week: Seven of the top eight teams should be fairly significant favorites heading into this Friday's slate of games.

Editor's note: Number in parentheses represents previous week's ranking.

1. West York (1) -- No surprise here. After a nightmarish schedule to open the season, the Bulldogs (4-0) got a much deserved break during a 67-0 romp against Hanover.

2. South Western (2) -- Dover isn't exactly an elite team, but the Mustangs' 48 first-half points were impressive nonetheless. South Western (4-0, 1-0 YAIAA Division I) has shown the ability to win with both offense and defense so far this year.

3. William Penn (4) -- Friday's 32-27 win at Red Lion gave the Bearcats the credibility that a soft early-season schedule couldn't. William Penn (4-0, 1-0 Division I) is looking more and more like a real contender.

4. Delone Catholic (6) -- A 54-7 throttling of Biglerville seemed to re-enforce the idea that the Squires (3-1, 1-0) are by far the class of YAIAA Division III.

5. York Suburban (10) -- Saturday's win against Littlestown was huge for the Trojans (3-1, 1-0) and their DIvision II title hopes. One negative? Quarterback Jordan Knaub went down with a shoulder injury, which coach Bill Kerr said could be a "bad bruise or a break."

6. Littlestown (3) -- Saturday's loss dealt a blow to the Bolts' division title hopes. But Littlestown (3-1, 0-1) hung with Suburban, and its passing attack -- led by quarterback Matt Zuber and receiver Matt Koontz -- is explosive enough to make the Bolts a team nobody wants to play.

7. Central York (NR) -- A convincing 28-0 win against Spring Grove catapults the Panthers (2-2, 1-0 Division I) back into the Top 10. Senior tailback Charles Anderson has 479 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in the team's last two games, both wins.

8, Kennard-Dale (NR) -- Since quarterback Matt Romoser and fullback Ethan Hornbarger both got healthy, the Rams (2-2, 1-0 Division II) are 2-0 with wins over Dallastown and Eastern York.

9. Dallastown (NR) -- A shutout win against previously unbeaten New Oxford gets the Wildcats (2-2, 1-0 Division I) back into the Top 10. But can they hang with South Western this Friday?

T-10. Spring Grove (5) -- After a 3-0 start, the Rockets' offense couldn't get much going against Central York. Spring Grove (3-1, 0-1) hosts Red Lion on Friday in a game it needs to win to show it can hang in Division I.

T-10. New Oxford (7) -- Much the Rockets, the Colonials came into last week unbeaten, only to be shutout in their league opener. It's almost like somebody put a hex on them or something.

Just missed: Northeastern.
