I got a chance to check out Central York practice Wednesday (as my amateurish attempt at iPhone photography will attest). And by the looks of things, Penn State-bound Kyle Baublitz isn't the only Panther worth keeping an eye on this year.

Senior Charles Anderson already has a year of experience starting at defensive end, and backed up D.J. Harrison last year at tailback. He'll be starting at both positions this year, and though he has room to grow (6-foot-1, 179 pounds), his speed and athleticism have already drawn the attention of some college coaches.

Anderson said at YAIAA Media Day he has one Division I offer (Akron), as well as offers form Cornell and Towson. He's also getting looks from two other FCS schools (or Division I-AA, as everybody still calls them) -- Richmond and Georgetown. But Panthers head coach Brad Livingston thinks interest in the senior will only increase once coaches can contact senior recruits September 1.

"When September 1 rolls around, it will be really interesting to see what happens with Charles, because people know about him," Livingston said. "He'd been a pretty well-kept secret. He's going to take off, his highlight tape is 'wow.' "

I came away from Wednesday's practice impressed with Anderson. He looks shifty and quick at tailback, and during one series at defensive end laid a huge hit on a Panther runner -- drawing "oohs" from many of his teammates.

Anderson has already gotten a taste of the attention from college recruiters. "It was alright," he said. "I'm not really a big talker on the phone, but it was good to have schools saying that they're interested."

As for where school project him to play in college? That's uncertain.

"They seem to have difficulty doing that," Anderson said.

If Anderson can have a big senior season, there will be plenty of schools willing to find a place for him.
