Media Day Madness

Where can you find about 20 YAIAA football coaches and a few dozen of the area's best gridiron talents all in one room? Why, at YAIAA Football Media Day, of course, an annual gathering in which those coaches and players sit for a few hours and patiently answer the questions and queries of local media members.

This year's Media Day extravaganza took place Thursday at Bentley's at the Barn in Hanover. All but one of the YAIAA schools were present (Biglerville being the lone exception)

West York quarterback Alex George on what the team learned from it's District 3 Class AAA title run last season...

"The moment's not too big for us anymore. I think we can all pretty much step up in a big moment.

"As soon as we got to districts, each game we got past the moment got bigger. In terms of being in awe, especially going to Hershey, because everyone talked about that all year and now we're in this field it was kind of an unreal kind of feeling."

Dallastown coach Kevin Myers on trying to build on two successful seasons...

"I think there's more of a sense of pride now than necessarily importance. These guys want to do well. They don't want to be the group that, hey we had two good years and now we're back down. The kids want to continue to make Dallastown a program that when you talk York football, Dallastown is one of the team's in the mix. We're not where we want to be yet. Obviously every team in here wants to be the cream of the crop."

And that's just a small snippet of some of the action from today's Media Day. Obviously, the 21 schools present were far too many for one reporter to cover. But you can certainly look forward to more coverage during the coming days and weeks as Opening Night (Sept. 4) approaches.

Stay tuned.
