L-L Football bold predictions: Week 2

Well I certainly went into week one with guns a blazin’ and came out with a pretty solid record (if I do say so myself) of 16-2.

Will there be an encore act this week?

The odds are against it but let’s give it a shot.

THE GAME: Donegal (1-0) at Fleetwood (1-0)

THE WINNER: Donegal

THE REASON: The Indians offense ran through E-Town last week with senior Bryce Sadler racking up 115 yards and a touchdown on the ground while Conner Ness added 116 yards and two touchdowns through the air. I expect Donegal to have the same kind of balance this week against Fleetwood who defeated Octorara last week but still conceded 31 points on defense.

THE GAME: McCaskey (0-1) at William Penn(0-1)

THE WINNER: William Penn

THE REASON: McCaskey hung tough with Harrisburg in the first half before falling, 46-21. This week they’re back on the road, this time in York County against a William Penn squad that’s coming off a rough 26-25 loss to Reading. The Red Tornado has enough offensive weapons to hang around again this week but they’re going to need to straighten things up on defense if they want to get their first win.

THE GAME: Manheim Central (1-0) at Hempfield (1-0)

THE WINNER: Manheim Central

THE REASON: Hempfield showed a lot of poise last week in their roller coaster win against L-S but Manheim Central showed a lot of “Manheim Central-ness” in their 42-6 beat down of Warwick. Hempfield was able to make up for a couple mistakes last week but they can’t expect the same kind of retribution when playing the Barons.

THE GAME: Lancaster Catholic (0-1) at Governor Mifflin (0-1)

THE WINNER: Governor Mifflin

THE REASON: The Crusaders dropped a 35-14 contest to Dallastown last week but they definitely aren’t going to get any sympathy from Governor Mifflin who let a win over rival Wilson slip through their fingers. With a start under his belt, Crusaders quarterback Jordan Scott should perform better but Governor Mifflin is coming into this game angry and looking for a team to take some aggression out on.

THE GAME: CD East (1-0) at Wilson (1-0)

THE WINNER: Wilson

THE REASON: They almost let me down last week but the good ol’ reliable Bulldogs pulled out a 35-34 squeaker against Governor Mifflin. Wilson QB Jake Templin threw for four touchdowns last week but I look for the Bulldogs to try to establish more of a running game against CD East in order to better control the pace. The week one jitters are gone so Wilson should roll.

THE GAME: Lampeter-Strasburg (0-1) at Penn Manor (1-0)

THE WINNER: Penn Manor

THE REASON: This is a game I’m really torn on. L-S showed a lot of resiliency in their loss to Hempfield last week and I’m not sure how the Comets players are going to react to coming back into the US east coast time one after their memorable win in Ireland. However, Penn Manor is loaded with talent and most likely won’t give L-S the opportunities Hempfield did if they fall behind early.

THE GAME: Hershey (0-1) at Elizabethtown (0-1)

THE WINNER: Hershey

THE REASON: Both of these teams lost by more than twenty points last week but with the high amount of inexperienced players on the E-Town roster, it still may take a few more weeks for the Bears to find their rhythm. While the home field advantage may help, I still think E-Town falls short this week.

THE GAME: Garden Spot (1-0) at Warwick (0-1)

THE WINNER: Garden Spot

THE REASON: It’s hard to gauge exactly where they two teams are at after Garden Spot steamrolled Twin Valley and Warwick had their hands full with Manheim Central. But I’m going to roll with the Spartans here because they are going to be able to take care of the the ball and the tempo, something Warwick desperately wants to be able to do this year. Quarterback Mitch Martin had a three-touchdown performance last week and Garden Spot used five different rushers to pick up 139 yards on the ground. The Spartans are just too well-balanced for the Warriors as of right now.

THE GAME: Kutztown (0-1) at Pequea Valley (1-0)

THE WINNER: Pequea Valley

THE REASON: The Braves took their first step towards their first winning season in program history with a gritty 20-12 victory over York Tech last week. With the rust shaken off and quarterback Gabe Allygyer with his first start under his belt, look for Pequea Valley’s offense to play on par with their defense and take care of Kutztown who was rolled 42-0 by Bristol in week one.

THE GAME: Cocalico (1-0) at Ephrata (0-1)

THE WINNER: Cocalico

THE REASON: Both of these teams have convincing games last week for entirely different reasons. Cocalico convinced me that their program can obviously handle a mass graduation with their 32-14 win over Daniel Boone. Ephrata convinced me that it might take a little bit longer than one year to build a foundation for the future with a 70-0 loss to Conestoga Valley. Look for the Eagles to soar early and often.

THE GAME: Columbia (0-1) at Delone Catholic (0-1)

THE WINNER: Delone Catholic

THE REASON: The Crimson Tide hit the road this week after allowing nearly 400 yards on the ground against Eastern York last week in which Columbia fell, 35-14. If the Crimson Tide want to get in the win column this week, they’ll have to tighten things up a lot up front. Until then, I have to go with Delone Catholic.

THE GAME: Red Lion (1-0) at Manheim Township (0-1)

THE WINNER: Manheim Township

THE REASON: Hopefully for Manheim Township, a heartbreaking OT loss to Central Dauphin last week won’t carry over this week as they host Red Lion. However, if the Streaks get another double-digit lead at any time, don’t expect them to let off the gas until the clock hits triple zeroes.

THE GAME: Conestoga Valley (1-0) at Solanco (1-0)

THE WINNER: Conestoga Valley

THE REASON: The Mules are coming off a solid 21-15 win over Oxford last week why the Buckskins are trying to follow up a 70-0 beating of Ephrata. While I don’t see the win over the Mounts as a real indication of how CV’s season is going to play out, their 394 rushing yards last week does show they are ready to pound the football and keep opponents’ offense off the field.
