Hempfield’s (16-9) District 3 baseball semifinal matchup with Red Land (14-8) at Hershey High School was postponed on Wednesday and will be attempted to be played on Thursday.

Black Knights coach Jeremy Morrison admitted that it’s difficult to gear up for a game only to have it changed to another time and place but explained that his team handles it well.

“The weather is always a challenge for outdoor, spring sports,” Morrison said. “The team handles it pretty well. We prepare our best to play when the game is scheduled and until they tell us otherwise, we are ready to go.”

Morrison referenced his team’s approach to the L-L finals earlier this month as  Hempfield was scheduled to play Annville-Cleona on a Thursday but had the game re-scheduled twice before finally capturing the L-L title with a 9-0 win on a Saturday morning.

“We had a similar situation a few weeks ago with the L-L Championship game being postponed a few times,” Morrison said. “The kids know the weather is out of our control so we don’t spend a lot of time worrying about it.”

With the possibility of more thunderstorms on Thursday, Hempfield will have to amp themselves up once more while knowing there is a chance of not playing. Despite the head games that the weather may produce, Morrison is confident his team will be ready for their opportunity to punch a ticket to the district championship.

“They have done a good job this season handling many weather related changes (game locations changing, games being postponed, etc.).  Our team will be ready whenever the weather cooperates.”
