L-L field hockey championship is a heavyweight matchup

The 2013 L-L field hockey champions will be crowned on Thursday night when Penn Manor (17-2-1) defends its title against Warwick (15-4-1).

In my humble opinion, the Comets should be the slight favorite in this matchup with their section One foe. The Penn Manor offense is high intense and puts pressure on their opponents which can crumble pre-game strategies.

Offensive players to watch on Penn Manor are Rachel Suter, freshman Brooke DeBerdine and Lizzie Frombach who scored all three of the Comets goals in their 3-0 victory over Hempfield.

If any team can handle the pressure though; it’s Warwick. In their Sept. 18 matchup with Penn Manor, the Warriors pushed the Comets to the limit before Fromach scored on a corner play with under two minutes to play.

Warwick defeated Elizabethtown in their semifinal match, 1-0 thanks to a goal by Liz Wenger two minutes into the second half.

Thursday’s championship game will take place at 7pm at Comet Field in Millersville.
