Week one has come and gone. While some teams made a good opening statement and others disappointed, it’s still way to earlier to decide who’s for real and who’s not. Here are some things we can take from this weekend however.

Section 2 is going to be a real dogfight: Cocalico’s triple option ran all over Daniel Boone during Friday night’s 49-14 win; accumulating 430 yards of total offense.

Not to be outdone, Manheim Central bowled over Warwick, 33-7.

While both teams will face some challenging games in the near future, October 4 is sure to be explosive when the Barons travel to Denver to take on the Eagles.

2013 will be different for Hempfield: Head coach Ron Zeiber said Friday night’s 40-7 win over Lampeter-Strasburg allowed his team to close one door and open another. With a huge offensive/defensive line anchored by senior Joey Goodhart and explosive skill players like Mike Edwards, Tyrell Wickersham and Devin Washington firing on all cylinders, the Black Knights are an instant dark horse.

Wilson isn’t going anywhere: Much to the chagrin of everyone else in District 3,

the Bulldogs aren’t rebuilding in 2013; they’re reloading. Despite losing 19 starters from 2012, Wilson looked very sharp in their 38-7 victory over Governor Mifflin. With steady quarterback play from senior Matt Timochenko and a speedy running game, don’t expect the Bulldogs to give up their Section 1 crown without some serious resistance.

Pequea Valley’s “drive for 5” is underway: After being down 8-0 at halftime, it would have been easy for the Braves to resort back to their old ways but Evan Breisblatt’s squad rallied in the second half to defeat York County Tech, 42-16. After witnessing the attitude at PV’s two-a-days this month, it’s obvious that this year’s team is determined to get to .500. The Braves will get their shot and win no. 2 Friday night when they travel to Kutztown whom they defeated last year by a score of 13-3.
