Pequea Valley's "drive for five".

The credo for the 2013 Pequea Valley season is plain and simple.

“The drive for five.”

That’s the statement head coach Evan Breisblatt has been preaching to his players vigorously throughout the summer.

“Our goal is the drive for five. We want five wins desperately. The history of this program, if anyone knows about it, it’s a program that has struggled,” Breisblatt said.

Breisblatt took over at Pequea Valley two year ago and has a combined record of 7-13. The Braves only averaged 1.5 wins per year in the three seasons before Breisblatt became the head coach however.

“Since we took over, we’ve won seven games. Four in our first year and three last year. We’re looking for five or more. It’d be a failure if we didn’t get it. That’s our goal and .500 isn’t asking a lot. But around here, it’s like eight or nine wins.

With two-a-days in full swing, the Pequea Valley players are clearly buying into the “drive for five” and believe that they can make Pequea Valley history.

“A winning record is number one for us. We have a lot more seniors this year who will be better than last year. So we definitely want a winning record and even more, the playoffs,” sophomore Gabe Allgyer said.  “We’re not trying to just be OK this year. We’re trying to be a lot better than last year.”

The Braves will start their “drive for five” on August 31 when they travel to York County Tech.
