Six L-L volleyball players make first-team All-State

Six L-L boys volleyball players were honored this month by being named to the First-Team Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association 2013 PIAA Boys Volleyball All-State Team.

In Double-A, Manheim Central’s senior middle hitter Josiah Hershberger (second year making first-team) and senior setter Robbie Lawyer were recognized for their efforts. With the help of Hershberger and Lawyer, the Barons were ranked no. 5 in the state, finished first in Section Two, were runners-up in the L-L and District Three Championships and made it to the quarterfinals of the PIAA State Championship before losing to Holy Redeemer (3-0).

A pair of Lancaster Mennonite seniors also made the list. Setter Nick Weaver made first team after making third-team honors last year. Outside hitter Jerel Sensineg was also named to the team. Lancaster Mennonite was also eliminated in the state quarterfinals after losing to Derry (3-1).

In Triple-A, the PVCA named Hempfield’s outside hitter Garret Dimm and libero Mitch Gregg to their list. This is the second year that Dimm has made the first-team list.  Hempfield won their section, the District Three title and advanced to the state semifinals this year before losing to eventual state runner-up Pennsbury in straight sets.
