McKee describes intensity of Manheim Central/Donegal rivalry

I had a chance to talk to Manheim Central pitcher Sara McKee last week to discuss her high school career and athletic future. When her team’s rivalry with Donegal became the topic of discussion, I was surprised to learn the kind of relationship the Barons have with the Indians. While McKee explained how she loved beating Donegal, she admitted that she never really liked playing them and her matchups with the Indians were the most nerve-wracking of her career.

Because the two teams knew each other so well, the games were similar to two siblings putting extra effort into every aspect of a contest in order to gain bragging rights. Unfortunately for McKee, the Barons met the Indians four times in her senior season including a 4-0 loss in the District Three third-place game that stifled Manheim Central’s state championship hopes.

McKee has been in a lot of pressure situations in her career and to admit that she was the most frazzled while playing Donegal, truly shows how intense high school rivalries are.
