Lady Trojans honor Kloe Ocker

In the final game of the season, Chambersburg's girls soccer team wanted to play tribute to one of its players.

The opening kick-off was booted by Lady Trojan sophomore Kloe Ocker, who immediately came off the field amid cheers from the crowd.

During a preseason scrimmage, Ocker suffered a severe concussion which has effectively ended her soccer career.

"In the last scrimmage before the preseason started, she got a severe concussion," Chambersburg coach Ed Franchi said. "It took her a long, long time to get over it - to the point that she was just able to be with the team last week. I just wanted to do something to recognize her, and let her teammates tell her they appreciate her."

After Ocker's injury was sustained, Franchi said she hasn't even attended school full time and just recently joined the team again at practice. It is Ocker's second concussion.

Franchi spoke to opposing coach Greg Cole, of Greencastle-Antrim, to let him know what was coming. Ocker's name was called out during the starting lineup introductions, and she had her chance to shine before being subbed out to take her place on the bench - a place she couldn't even be for most of the season.

"I thank Greg Cole for allowing us to end up doing that," Franchi said. "I explained it to him, and he was very supportive. It was a real good thing because the bottom line is, we're here for the kids."
