Michaela Kendall transfers to Greencastle

For her senior year, Michaela Kendall is trading in her light blue Spartans jersey for a darker Blue Devils getup.

After three successful years with McConnellsburg's girls soccer program, Kendall, a rising senior, is transferring to Greencastle-Antrim. According to Blue Devils assistant coach Katie Herman, Kendall will be living with her father in G-A School District.

"I've only been coaching for the last three weeks, so I don't know much about her," Herman said, "but I know she's good. She's skilled. She's really fast. She's a little quieter, but she'll definitely be a good asset for her team."

Primarily a defender and midfielder, Kendall was a part of McConnellsburg's District 5 Class A championship team during her sophomore year. Last season, Kendall racked up four goals and 14 assists, and was named a Public Opinion First Team All-Star.

"She has a lot of intensity and tenacity - you almost have to pull her back some," former Spartan coach Toby McGarvey said after last season. "She could play all 11 positions. We played her at center midfield, but sometimes in the back and at striker. When she steps on the field, she's out there to win."

That certainly bodes well in Greencastle, which has become accustomed to quite a bit of success. And although the Blue Devils are a tight-knit group, it wasn't hard for Kendall to fit in.

"I feel Greencastle is a very welcoming place," Lyza Martin said. "We already knew Michaela before she came because she played on our club team (Greencastle United). She's very good with the ball and brings a very confident front."

Riley Gelsinger said, "Our team is really close, and we all talk a lot and are open with each other. I'm very close with (Michaela), and I talk to her a lot. Everyone is very welcome with her."
